Trigger Point Therapy
This trigger point therapy is scientifically based on treating points on the muscle to relieve pain and restoring the muscle's resting tone. Its characteristics have similarities to other types of therapies such as acupressure, shiatsu and acupuncture.
Sometimes, a muscle or a muscle group can be traumatized due to injury, overuse or exertion. Often, there will be some degree of inflammation and a feeling of pain is associated with the inflammation process. But when this inflammation heals, the affected muscle will be slightly tighter than before. Hence, this tightness makes the muscle shorter and gives it a more dense texture.
When the condition continues, the muscle tightening will continue. At first, there is a feeling of tightness and it becomes constant. When this tightness increases, there is an occasional pain associated with that level of tightness. Then, the muscle tissue is saturated with tightness. The pain will become a chronic and the muscle could even be a spasm. The thickened muscles could press on nerves which pass through between them. This causes another kind of pain and this time, it is nerve-associated pain which spreads far beyond the original area. Performing regular activities can be prevented when there is pain and limited range of motion that comes along with this condition. This trigger point therapy is one of the best therapies a person can get.
This therapy has been proven to be highly successful in restoring the muscle condition to perform its normal functions in comfort. The muscle tone restoration improves the efficiency and performance. Physical manipulation of the muscle is not involved in this restoration therapy. It involves treatment of points on the muscle which actually relieve the tension in it. With the regular or repeated treatment, muscle can be restored to its normal texture and full length when relaxed.
Stabbing muscle pains can occur in various points in the body called trigger points. Trigger point therapy addresses muscle tension and release and it tends to be more invasive. It has positive benefits for those who suffer from chronic pain since it eliminates painful areas rather than treating surface tension or inflammation.
It is believed that the waste products in the body are accumulated around nerve clusters and this therapy operates under this principle. If it is not treated right away, these waste products will form a nodule or band that can be felt in the tissue and put pressure on the nerve cluster. The formation is called a trigger point and causes an intensely sharp pain. The therapy seeks out to destroy these nodule to help eleminate pain.
However, direct heat can relax muscles and allows manipulation in a greater intensity. This is achieved with a hot stone massage which is not attained by a regular massage alone. Hot stones expand blood vessels and push blood and waste through the nervous system and give the body a sedative effect. It is a deep, healing technique to enhance our awareness that will bring us close to our true essence. A hot stone massage is beneficial for the client as well as the therapist.
The sensation you will feel in a hot stone massage is an ultimate relaxation. The weight and the heat of the stones contribute to an efficient release of stress and tension. It is better to neglect doing anything physical or intellectual right after you received a hot stone massage. It is perfectly legal to 'get stoned' with a hot stone massage.
Cool marble stones are used instead of the heated stones in case of muscular injury or inflammation. It helps the body to detoxify because this therapy creates a thermotherapeutic healing in the circulatory system. The cool stones constrict the blood vessels. It then stimulates the nervous system by drawing blood and waste products along the body. By having a regular hot stone massage session, every cell in the body receives more nutrients and oxygen while removing waste through the lymphatic system.
